Help and answers

How Little Bankers works, for parents. You do not need an account to read this.

Getting started

Where is the money actually kept?

With you. Little Bankers never holds, moves or touches real money: there's no card, no e-money licence and nothing to top up.

What the app holds is a shared, agreed record: what a child has earned, what they've spent, and what they're owed. Think of it as an IOU you both trust rather than an account. When a child "spends" from their Savings Vault, you're the one who actually pays for the thing.

That's deliberate. It keeps fees at zero, keeps your child's money out of anyone else's hands, and means nothing can be locked away or lost if we disappear tomorrow.

Earning money

How do I set or change the weekly earning limit?

Parent Mode → Kids → pick a child → their spending cap.

The limit covers tokens from Learn & Earn, the maths games and habit bonuses. It never blocks Oinks, trophies or play. A capped child keeps everything except new tokens, which is the intended effect.

Leave it off if you'd rather not cap at all.

Saving up

What exactly is the Savings Vault?

A per-child pot held in pounds, and a record of money you're holding on their behalf. Nothing moves between real accounts. You decide where that money actually sits.

Every child has one; it isn't optional and there's no toggle to switch it on. Tokens move into it when you approve a child's transfer request, and you can add pounds to it directly from Parent Mode → Home → Give money.

It's worth being honest with yourself about the running total: it's real money you owe. If it's drifted from what you're actually holding, correct it in Parent Mode → Kids → Manage balances.

How does Money Monday interest work, and what will it cost me?

You set a yearly rate; it's paid in 52 small weekly instalments every Monday, so it compounds gently rather than exploding. Only the Savings Vault earns it. Token balances don't.

The rate is set once for the household, in Parent Mode → Settings → Money. The cap is 25% a year. Most families land somewhere between 5% and 10%.

What it costs you: on £50 saved at 10% a year, roughly 10p a week to start with, rising slowly as the balance grows. Any Vault holding £1 or more always gets at least 1p, so Money Monday never pays nothing. It's off until you turn it on.

Can I turn interest off for one child?

Yes. The rate is set once for the household, but each child can be opted out individually in Parent Mode → Kids → their profile.

Turning it off for a child stops future payments; it never claws back anything already paid.

Spending it

How do I record something my child has bought?

Parent Mode → Home → Record a spend. Pick the child, say what it was and what it cost, and the app works out the rest.

It takes tokens first and tops up from the Savings Vault if needed, so you don't have to do the sums. If the purchase would eat into a goal they're saving for, you'll see that before you confirm, and you can hand the phone over so they choose for themselves.

When should I use Spend instead of Manage balances?

Use **Record a spend** when a child has actually bought something. It records what it was, splits it across tokens and Vault properly, and shows the child the effect on their goals.

Use **Manage balances** (Parent Mode → Kids) when you're correcting a mistake: a wrong figure, a forgotten adjustment, a balance that's drifted from reality. It asks for a reason so the correction is on the record.

Rule of thumb: a purchase is Spend, a correction is Manage balances.

How do I give a child money or tokens?

Parent Mode → Home → Give money. Tokens go straight to their token balance; pounds go straight into their Savings Vault.

It's the right tool for birthday money, a one-off thank you, or moving real cash you're holding into the record.

What's the "buy it or save it" screen?

When you record a purchase that would set back a goal your child is saving for, the app can show them the choice directly: buy the thing now, or leave the money where it is.

It's meant to be handed over in person, and both options are shown with equal weight; it isn't a nudge towards one answer. Whichever they pick, you're the one who confirms. If they choose to save, they get a small celebration for it.

How do I set what a token is worth?

Parent Mode → Settings → Money. Pick what one token is worth.

Changing it later takes you through three short steps, and nothing changes until the last one. First, the tokens your children already have: keep their money the same, and we add or take away tokens so every balance is worth what it was, or keep their tokens the same, so each balance is worth more or less money. You see each child's figures, before and after, for both.

Second, rewards from now on: rebalance them so a busy week reaches each child's weekly cap, or keep them as they are in tokens, which makes each one worth more or less money. Third, a check of what will change before you confirm.

Goals, experience rewards, weekly caps and the Savings Vault always keep their money value. A goal still costs the same in pounds and its token target follows the new value. A child whose tokens or goal changed sees a short note the next time they open the app.

Games, Piggington and prizes

What are Oinks, and can my child spend real money on them?

Oinks are a fun-only points currency earned by playing Learn & Earn and practising homework. You can also give them as a present, from Parent Mode → Kids → pick a child → Give Oinks. They buy cosmetic items and characters in the Oink Shop, and nothing else.

There is no way to buy Oinks, no conversion to tokens or pounds, and no purchase of any kind inside the app. They're deliberately drawn as pink squares so they can't be mistaken for the gold token coins, and they sit entirely outside the money side of the app. The weekly earning cap doesn't touch them.

They're there so a child who has maxed out their weekly tokens still has a reason to practise.

What do the levels mean?

Learning Coach gives each game a band and a level.

The band is the set of words or questions your child is working in, and it moves with the school year: Sprout, Foundations, Climber, Builder, Challenger, Navigator, Strategist, Genius.

The level is where they are inside that band, and it goes Starter, Rising, Skilled, Expert, Champion. So "Navigator · Skilled" means Year 5 words, working comfortably in the middle of them.

They move up a level after a run of strong tests, and up a band once the level is topped out. Times tables have levels but no band, because the tables themselves are the ladder. Nothing goes down without a run of low scores, and a child never sees a number or a grade, only the words.

Setting things up

How do I add jobs a child can earn tokens for?

Parent Mode → Home → Earning activities, or from inside a child's page in the Kids tab.

Each activity has a name and a value. Set them up for one child, or for everyone. Children then claim them from their own Earn tab, which comes to you as a request.

How do I set up daily tasks and the weekly streak bonus?

Parent Mode → Kids → pick a child → Daily habits.

Add two or three small daily things. More than that and it stops feeling achievable. Then set how many complete days a week earns the bonus, and how big the bonus is. Five days out of seven is a good starting point.

Do I have to approve every daily task?

No. Day-to-day ticks go through on their own. Chasing them would be more work than the tasks.

The weekly streak bonus has a switch in each child's Daily habits section. Automatic (the default for new households) pays it the moment the week is done, within the spending cap. Over the cap it comes to you as a request, like a Learn & Earn reward. Manual sends every weekly bonus to you as a request to approve.

Where do I approve or turn down requests?

Parent Mode → Requests. Anything waiting shows a count on the tab, and on the Parent Mode button itself even while you're in Kid Mode.

Turn on notifications and you'll get a nudge the moment a child sends one, rather than finding out days later.

What is a "Buy it now" request?

It's your child asking you to buy something with what they've earned. It arrives in Requests with the price and what they have.

If they can afford it, approving takes it from their tokens first and then their Savings Vault. If they can't, you can cover the gap as a gift or as a loan that their earnings pay back. You can also make it a goal for them to save towards, or say not this time.

When the answer is no, your child sees "Not this time" with any note you write, and never who said it.

How do I choose the word lists and games my child gets?

Parent Mode → Home → Learn & Earn, or from inside a child's page.

All four games are on by default with a starter word list already loaded, so it works out of the box. From here you can switch games off, pick a different word list, or add your own words.

If school sends words home to learn, Homework practice on the same page is the better tool for that. It has its own answer here.

How do I set homework practice for my child?

Parent Mode → Home → Learn & Earn, then Homework practice and Set homework.

Choose spellings, English vocabulary or a language, then type the words in or take a photo of the sheet. Pick the day to practise until, and it appears under Homework on your child's Learn & Earn page.

A word counts as known once it's right on two different days. Each child can have five on the go at once, and anything more is kept as a draft until there's room.

What does my child earn for homework practice?

One Oink for every right answer, which you can switch off for any homework. You can also set a number of tokens to be paid once, when every word is known.

Both are chosen when you set the homework.

Can I share homework with another family?

Yes. Open the homework and tap Share to send a link by message or email.

The link carries the words and the school year they were written for, and nothing about your child or your family. The other family gets a copy of their own, so nothing they do changes yours.

Someone has sent me a homework link. What do I do?

Open the link. If you already use Little Bankers, tap "Send it to my app" and enter an email address linked to your app. You'll get a notification, and the homework will be waiting in Requests. From there, choose whose homework it is, check the words and set any rewards.

If you're new to Little Bankers, your child can try one practice straight away, and the link lets you set up a household without an invitation code.

How do I change how hard the questions are?

Set the child's school year on their profile and the games follow it automatically, from Reception up to Year 7 and beyond.

If that isn't landing right, you can override the level for a child directly and your choice wins over the automatic one. Spelling and maths follow the full ladder; times tables use simple year presets.

How do I set up a goal for a child?

Parent Mode → Kids → pick a child → Goals, or from the Home tab's Goals section.

Children can also add their own goals from their Rewards tab, which is usually the better version: it's their idea, so they're more invested in it. You'll see everything they add.

How do I add another parent, or set this up on a second device?

To add another adult, go to Parent Mode → Settings and choose Invite an adult. We email them a link that works once and lasts 24 hours. They get Parent Mode on their own device, with their own PIN. A household can have up to four adults.

To set the app up on another device of your own, go to Parent Mode → Settings → Household. You'll find your household code, the passcode, and a Quick join QR code. On the new device, choose Join and either scan the QR code or type the household code and passcode.

Can I stop one child seeing another's profile?

Yes. Parent Mode → Kids → the child you want to hide, and turn off their visibility for this device.

It's per device, so a shared family tablet can show one child while their own phone shows another. Hiding a child on a device also stops that device buzzing about them.

Phones, tablets and alerts

My child isn't getting reminders. Why?

Almost always because their device hasn't opted in yet.

Reminders go to devices that are signed up as a child's, not to the household as a whole. Turning notifications on for yourself doesn't cover your child's tablet. Open the app on **their** device in Kid Mode and turn notifications on there.

Two other things to check: on iPhone or iPad the app has to be added to the home screen first, and iOS quietly drops notification sign-ups for apps left unused for a few weeks. If it worked once and stopped, turn it off and on again on that device. Parent Mode → Settings → Notifications shows how many devices are actually covered.

How do I see and remove devices?

Parent Mode → Settings → Devices. Every phone and tablet signed in to your household is listed there.

Rename them so you can tell them apart, and remove any you no longer use: an old phone, or one that's been sold on.

Codes, PINs and getting back in

I've forgotten the household passcode.

On the Join screen, tap "Forgot your passcode?" and enter the email address the household was set up with. We'll send a link to reset it.

This doesn't touch the Parent PIN, which is a different thing.

I've forgotten the Parent PIN.

On the PIN screen, tap "Forgotten your PIN?" and enter your own email address, the one you use for Little Bankers. We'll send a reset link to that address.

Each adult has their own PIN, so resetting yours doesn't change anyone else's, and it doesn't touch the household passcode.

What's the difference between the PIN and the passcode?

The **passcode** lets a new device join your household. You'd share it with a partner setting up their phone.

The **PIN** unlocks Parent Mode on a device that's already joined. It's what stops a child wandering into the settings.

They're separate on purpose, and resetting one never affects the other.

What's an invitation code?

Little Bankers is invite-only during the Preview, so a code is needed to create a brand-new household. You only need it once, at sign-up.

It has nothing to do with your household code or passcode. Those come after, and are what you use from then on.

There's one other way in. If another family shares homework with you from Little Bankers, their link lets you set up a household without a code.

Your data and privacy

What do you store about my family?

As little as we can manage. Your household record holds the names and ages you typed in, your balances and history, your goals, your settings, the email address the household was set up with, and the email address of any other adult you invite.

We don't ask for your address, your date of birth, your bank details or your child's school. There's no chat, no messaging and no social features, and nobody outside your household can see anything about your family.

The one thing that can leave your household is homework you choose to share. Its link shows the words and the school year they were written for to anyone who has it, and nothing about you or your child.

Usage statistics are stripped of names and codes before they're stored. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy, linked at the bottom of every screen.

What happens to photos we upload?

Avatar and goal photos are stored against your household and only ever shown inside your own household. They aren't shared, indexed or used for anything else.

A photo of a homework sheet is different. It's read on your own device to pick out the words, and only the words are kept.

If you'd rather not upload any, don't. Every child can use a picture character instead, and nothing in the app needs a real photo.

Deleting your household deletes them.

Can I get a copy of our data?

Yes, any time, without asking us. Parent Mode → Settings → Data and privacy.

**Activity (CSV)** gives you every transaction in a spreadsheet, useful for seeing where the money's actually gone.
**Full backup (JSON)** is everything, and it's the file you'd use to restore.

Both are made on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere to produce them.

How do backups and restoring work?

Take a backup whenever you like from Parent Mode → Settings → Data and privacy. It downloads a file to your device. Keep it somewhere sensible.

To restore, choose "Restore from a backup file" on the create screen. One thing to be clear about: restoring always creates a **new** household rather than overwriting an existing one, so nothing can be destroyed by a mistaken restore. You'd then move everyone onto the new household code.

How do I delete our household for good?

Parent Mode → Settings → Data and privacy → Request account deletion.

You'll type DELETE to confirm, and we email a link to the household owner's address. Nothing happens until that link is clicked, and the link expires after 30 minutes. Once it's done it's permanent: every balance, transaction, goal, photo and device link, for everyone.

Take a backup first if there's any chance you'll want the history.

When something's not right

How do I contact a real person?

support@littlebankers.uk, or the report button at the top of this page. Both land in the same place, and a person reads them.

During the Preview we're a very small team, so we're honest about it: we read everything, but we can't always reply quickly.
